Airplane Fuel Rod Testing

For precise quality control in airplane fuel rod manufacturing, Industrial Automation Solution designed and built a comprehensive robotic testing system. The robotic testing system is for measuring the weight and resistance of fuel rods used in airplanes. This innovative project leverages cutting-edge automation technologies to ensure the highest levels of accuracy, efficiency, and safety.

Key Features and Benefits:

 Collaborative Robot (Cobot) for Accurate Handling and Positioning: We selected a Universal Robot (Cobot) for its precision and ability to work safely alongside human operators. The Cobot accurately handles and positions fuel rods during the testing process, minimizing the risk of damage and ensuring consistent measurements.

  • Reliable PLC for System Orchestration: A Mitsubishi PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) acts as the brain of the system, orchestrating the movements of the Cobot and the data acquisition from the testing equipment. This ensures seamless integration and reliable operation.
  • User-Friendly HMI for Efficient Operation: Operators interact with the system through a clear and informative Mitsubishi HMI (Human Machine Interface). This interface provides real-time feedback on the testing process, allowing for efficient monitoring and control of the system.

The tote, used to transport the fuel cells on the conveyers was first built in wood and later in AutoCAD. We built 4 totes to hold the fuel cells and two conveyor systems.
